Zooming In On Video Messaging

In our last piece, we laid out a few of the key technological advances unions utilize to effectively agitate and organize employees – mostly under the radar. They included mass texting, meme humor, and video messaging. Let’s quickly zoom in on why video marketing has given unions an edge.

  1. It’s Easy and Appealing to the Senses 

Nothing fancy here, just the reality of what catches the human eye. People like colors. People like graphics. And people like quickness. Videos enable unions to get a message across quickly, in a visually appealing manner, and with music that sets an emotional tone. In 15 seconds, a union can communicate a message which is capable of moving employees to action.

  1. It’s Over Quickly 

As mentioned, 15 seconds is the rule of thumb for a message to keep the attention of the viewer. Unlike the lengthy messages a company will give, unions can use each video to communicate one quick promise. The phrase  “We Will Get You That Raise!” sounds appealing when the next graphic pops up before they can figure out the “how”, exactly. 

Union messaging doesn't give their viewers time to figure out logistics. Unions bombard viewers with promises the union isn’t obligated to keep, hoping the reader gets too overwhelmed to dig into the fine print.

  1. It Shows Evolution

Many companies are still posting fliers in the break rooms, on bulletin boards – all the old fashioned spots to mass communicate. Unions don’t bother anymore because they have videos. When employees see video marketing – especially high quality video marketing – they see an entity that has grown with the times. They will compare the company’s prehistoric method of  pieces of paper taped to a wall with a sleek video message from the union, and think “why wouldn’t I want these people looking out for me?”

We could keep going, but you get the picture – in a modern world with modern technology, those who adapt survive, those who resist fall to the wayside. The best way to avoid being surprised is to stay with the times.
